A good homemade sugar scrub recipe will be natural, organic, and create luxuriously smooth skin. These easy homemade sugar scrub recipes have your needs in mind.

Keeping things organic and healthy is incredibly important to me. Why make something from scratch if you’re going to ruin it with fragrance oils and dyes? Instead, create something that you can be proud of and share with your family and friends.

These make great gifts, whether for Christmas gifts, birthday presents, teacher gifts, or even bridal showers. They are a great opportunity to spoil yourself or someone you care for.

Easy Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe

Sugar scrubs are wonderful on the skin whether it’s summer or winter. My favorite way to use a sugar scrub is in the shower. Use a tablespoon it scoop out a little into your hands and then massage all over your body. The sugar will be rough at first (a great exfoliation), while melting quickly. I do this to my arms, legs, feet, face and neck about once a week. It’s luxurious and leaves my skin sooth and hydrated.

**NOTE: Just be careful to not use a glass container in the shower AND don’t slip! I have a non slip flooring. If I didn’t I would fall immediately after using! If you’re concerned about it being slippery than use while sitting in the bathtub, or just apply to feet or face and hands at the tub or sink.

I like to use organic sugar. After all, your skin is your biggest organ.

Adding Scent to Your Easy Homemade Sugar Scrub

I also only use essential oils and herbs for scenting and medicinal purposes. As I said above, don’t go to the effort of making something fabulous and then ruining it with bad ingredients.

Store bought sugar scrubs are expensive and have fragrance oils, dyes, and unnecessary preservatives. These are so easy to make that you’ll never go back to store bought body and lip scrubs.

I’ve given you a few different options below to make these for holidays or any season, but feel free to tweak them and change them to suit your own likes and dislikes.

I get most of my essential oils from Mountain Rose Herbs and Starwest Botanicals because I know I’m going to get high quality and I’m not going to spend more than I should.

Use dried herbs instead of fresh. Fresh herbs introduce water and speeds oil oxidation.

Creating an Easy Homemade Sugar Scrub Gift

Don’t forget that these make great holiday gifts. I like to use reusable glass jars like these when I’m giving them as gifts. I’ll even include a small recipe card so they can remake it and fill their jar themselves when it’s empty! If you want to give them other ideas for filling their jars, or if you want some more ideas for any leftover jars, try these recipes:

  • detoxing face mask
  • eye cream
  • face cream with rose and sandalwood
  • tooth powder
  • foundation
  • blush

Tie a ribbon around it and pair it with homemade lip balm (even learn how to add color and scents to lip balms) or include handmade soap and you’ll have a very special and thoughtful gift that anyone would love to receive.
